Core prompt: Sri Lankan apparel sector trade body, Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF) has shortlisted key logistics service providers who have played a major role in import and export areas

Sri Lankan apparel sector trade body, Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF) has shortlisted key logistics service providers who have played a major role in import and export areas of the apparel sector.

JAAF has recognized them as ‘Preferred Partners’ for furtherance of their services in an ‘ethical, transparent and efficient’ manner.

The secretary general of JAAF, MPT Cooray recently signed an MoU with seven of these logistics service providers in a bid to bring them closer to apparel sector’s supply chain system.

The companies include, CL Synergy, DRH Logistics, ExpoLanka Freight, Freight Links International Hellman Worldwide Logistics, Scanwell Logistics and Shermans Logistics.

“Logistics services providers form the part and soul of the process and the success or failure of the business is ultimately depended on logistics supplies,” JAAF said in a statement.

It added, “Safe and timely delivery is most often a product promise packaged to offerings and this has been a cornerstone in the very success of the brand - Sri Lanka Apparel.”

However, the release underlined that although this component of the promised deliverables is the key to the business, yet it has no direct bearing on the “product” itself.

“Therefore trust, competence and capacity are crucial factors that have to be determined,” the trade body noted.

Earlier this year, JAAF had made a representation to the government, which paved way for introduction of a fair mechanism for the shipping sector and more particularly on Terminal Handling Charges issue.

The trade body explained, “With this background, JAAF has yet again brought in all leaders in the logistics industry in, to an extent ensuring equal and sustainable business opportunities.”

JAAF represents all stakeholders of the apparel industry. The value of the business handled in both imports and exports in Sri Lanka exceeds US$ 6 billion.
