Beta Carotine Powder is a carotenoid, an orange-yellow fat-soluble compound. It is a natural pigment that tints food yellow and orange. The pure product has the appearance of a reddish-purple to dark red crystalline powder with a slight odor. Dilute solutions of beta-carotene are orange-yellow in color and very soluble in organic solvents such as methylene chloride and carbon disulfide. When the concentration of the solution increases, the solution will be orange in color because the polarity of the solvent may be slightly red. It is unstable when exposed to oxygen, heat and light. It is more stable in weak bases.
